Former Diocese of Zamość

1) a greek-catholic parish during the period from 1740 to about 1873, converted to an orthodox parish after liquidation of the Union by the Russian Car - the Roman-Catholics transferred to a parish in Trzeszczany. Nieledew became an independant roman-catholic parish in 1985.

2) metrical books for the village of Wysokie exist since 1784.

3) the reviewed books probably originate from the Wysokie Lubelskie Parish (postal code 23-145). Our search was stopped after the year 1860.

4) Public Register Books of the Episcopal Curia in Hrubieszów

Commentary from the Dec. 1, 2005 letter from Wlodzimierz Biegunski:

(...) "The Napoleonic Code and Public record keeping were introduced in the territories east of the Vistula river as late as the middle of the year 1810. Earlier, only the Parish Register books were kept. Books of the Roman-Catholic parishes remained in their archives. Books from the liquidated Uniate Parishes, (converted by force to Orthodoxy by the Car) and dating back to before 1810, were deposited in the State Archives."
