Jan Wajszczuk (1076)


Jan was born in Wysokie on November 13, 1921. After graduating from the grammar school, he worked on his parents' farm. After expulsion by the Germans from their homestead in Wysokie on November 8, 1942, he was placed in a transit camp in Hostynne. While there, he was temporarily arrested (details are not known) and after release started working on the railroad in Zamosc, where he was again arrested (circumstances are not known). After release from jail in Zamość, he was sent to the village of Krzywy Stok, where he worked as a hired farmhand.

After liberation by the Soviet Army, he was drafted in Zamość on November 17, 1944 to the Polish People's Army and assigned to the 4th Independant Road Building Battalion. Further details of his military service and employment are given below in the attached resume (in polish). While in the Army, from February of 1945, he was stationed in Warsaw, where he met and married on January 1, 1947 Janina Helena, nee Trzaska (see). Jan died on February 26, 2001.
