An article published in a newspaper "Kurier Siedlecki"

Citizens of Siedlce in the Warsaw Uprising

(English summary with excerpts)

This article starts with a description of an event which took place during the Warsaw    Uprising in 1944. - "One of the most tragic events... took place on August 14, 1944 - Sunday afternoon on Kilinski Street. It was an explosion of a German tank-trap, which has been captured from the Germans earlier that day. ... "The view of the street after the explosion was unequaled: over two hundred mangled bodies and twice as many severely wounded and with burns were spread over the sidewalks." (Jan Dobraczynski, "Only in one life", Warszawa 1977,   p. 271). The biggest losses were suffered by the Battalion "Gustaw", and in particular by its Scout Company. The Author's cousin - 2nd lieutenant, 35 year old Jerzy Wiszniewski was killed and a niece Barbara Wajszczuk was wounded".
(see - https://www.wajszczuk.pl/english/drzewo/tekst/0084barbara.htm).

The author then mentions the relationships by marriage between the famililies of Dobraczynski, Biegunski and Wierzejski and writes about their Hungarian ancestors -Turketti and Horin, who fought in the Polish Uprisings of November 1831 and January 1863. Information comes from a family member - Wlodzimierz Biegunski, who studied at one time the family history. The author then writes about the tragedy of the parents - physician Edmund Wajszczuk and his wife Maria nee Biegunska, who lost three out of their four children in the Uprising - the only one left was the oldest - Danuta. About the fallen ones - see also: Barbara (see above), Antoni - see (https://www.wajszczuk.pl/english/drzewo/tekst/0083antoni.htm) and Wojciech - see (https://www.wajszczuk.pl/english/drzewo/tekst/0085wojciech.htm).

"From the described family comes also Tadeusz Piotr Biegunski, son of Jan Stanislaw and Joanna from the Dobraczynski family. ..." He also was most likely active in the Underground and after the Uprising was deported by the Germans to the Pruszkow prisoner camp, then sent to the Sachsenhausen (Oranienburg) Concentration Camp and finally to Buchenwald. He survived, but in 1952 was arrested by the Communist Secret Police (shortly after suffering a heart attack) -beatings and tortures resulted in a second heart attack. He was detained for two years and died in 1958.

"Among other participants of the Warsaw Uprising, personally known to me is Wladyslaw Stefanoff. He was wounded during the dramatic fight for the Gdanski Railroad Station" (in Warsaw). ... Many other citizens of Siedlce also fought in the ranks of the Underground fighters. ... Many others could participate in the Uprising and were marching to assist the fighting Warsaw. Soviet military authorities and in particular the infamous NKVD presented an obstacle." The author gives here some examples of the Soviet interference.
